Fat Shark Recon FPV Goggles Review

This order has arrived and my Fat Shark Recon FPV Goggles are here.  This is my first FPV goggle and I’m very much looking forward to having fun with these and seeing how the kids react.

Out of the Box

The Fat Shark Recon FPV Goggles right away feel very nice and simple to understand. A charing cable is not included, this seems to be the normal with new devices recently. A simple Micro-USB charging cable and you will be up and running quite quickly. A SMA standard antenna is used and does its job well enough. If you start to outgrow this one, you can simply buy a better omnidirectional one on Amazon.com.

Heads Up Display (HUD)

The navigation buttons are quite simple to understand. A simple 5-way tactile switch will have you navigating options in no time at all. Up and down is your contrast, while left and right is your brightness adjustment. Press in to go into “RF Max Scan” mode.

Channel Selection

Press in on the tactile switch and you will be scanning through frequencies looking for your video feed utilizing “RF Max Scan.” Or use the “Ch+” and “CH-” to manually select the channel you are looking for. There are a total of 40 unique frequencies you can tune in. Race Band 1, FatShark (FS), Band A, Band B, and Band E, Each band can fine tune 8 channels.

Pros

  • Cheap Solution to Get Started with FPV
  • Multiple Frequencies and Channels
  • Compatible with Multiple Setups
  • Rechargeable via Micro-USB and Removeable Battery
  • Replaceable SMA Antenna
  • Easy to Read Heads Up Display (HUD)

Cons

  • Felt a Little Small Compared to Others
  • The antenna is Nothing Special, Can Be Replaced Easily
  • No Video Recording (Added in Version 2.0! See Update Below!)

Conclusion

My Goggles were supplied with the Fat Shark 101 FPV Drone Racing Kit. With that in mind, I can’t really speak for how these would be separate from the kit. With the multi-frequency capability and ease of setup, this would be a great recommendation for any first-time FPV flyer.
